The Mustang Recovery Challenge, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, is a transformative substance use prevention and mental health improvement program. Participants work with wild horses, using heart-rate synchronization and trust-building techniques to calm and train the horses. This process mirrors their own recovery journey, teaching emotional regulation, stress management, and resilience.
Supported by credentialed counselors, a licensed psychologist, and professional horse trainers, the program focuses on improving interpersonal relationships, building self-esteem, and reducing the risk of relapse. It also equips participants with practical skills in horse training, which are transferable to other areas of life. By forming a deep, heart-centered connection with the mustang, participants experience personal growth, learn to cope with life stressors, and gain a renewed sense of purpose.
Proceeds from horse sales go back into supporting participants and the nonprofit’s mission, fostering a continuous cycle of healing and community support.
Graduates of the program become mentors, helping future participants on their recovery journey, creating a lasting impact on the community.
"When you're ready to look at yourself, God will put you in front of a horse. They're a reflection of you - like a mirror." ~Bree
"When a horse looks at you and there's no judgement, no opinion, there's freedom in that look. Freedom to simply be you! It's life changing!
Thank you from the bottom of my soul for this this opportunity" ~Des
